Family Related Books

The choice of these books do not dictate what the traits of a person with BPD are or whether you should stay in the relationship or not. See the DSM IV. "BPD relationships" can be quite successful when two people are both working on recovery.

Personality Disorders in Children and Adolescents by Paulina F. Kernberg, Alan S. Weiner, Karen K. Bardenstein a

Reader:  "The Encyclopedia for Psychologists. This book really shows how to recognize and work with children with personality disorders It truly amazed me...I could relate to what the book is about because one of my children has a personality disorder.
Overall, it's one of the best books on that subject.
Bravo, bravo."aaaa

Emotional Blackmail: When the People in Your Life Use Fear, Obligation, and Guilt to Manipulate You by Susan Forward, Donna Frazier

Emotional Blackmail: When the People in Your Life Use Fear, Obligation, and Guilt to Manipulate You by Susan Forward, Donna Frazier

Reader:  "Stumbling across this book was like someone throwing me a lifeline. All of a sudden, there was a name for what I was existing, (not living) through. So many times as I read through the lists of "Tools of the Trade" in chapter 4, I have recognized manipulative behaviour techniques that were being used with great effectiveness on me personally. (and also a few that I may have been guilty of using myself) The section on "Maintaining a Strong Connection" and the use of children as a weapon, was so applicable to my own situation, that the authors could have used my experiences in writing this case study..."

I Hate You, Don't Leave Me by Dr. Jerold Kreisman

Patty Pheil M.S.W.:  First book for BPD consumers and families. Excellent material except it is dated due to being written in 1991. At that time there was no well known treatment for the BPD. There is now.

Kreisman has a brand new book out in 2004 called "Sometimes I Act Crazy."

Reader:  "I don't mean to be overzealous about the results I received from reading this book, but it has changed my life. I never knew I had a borderline personality, I always thought I was more of a border crossing guard type personality, you know, never wanting to let people cross over into the deceitful, dark underworld that is my existence. However, I now realize that I am borderline, and like Madonna sang, "keep pushin' me, keep pushin' me, keep pushin' my love. C'mon baby, yeah." A MUST READ!"
