Life at the Border: Understanding and Recovering from the Borderline Personality Disorder by Leland M. Heller, M.D. |
| Patty Pheil
M.S.W.:: Highly recommended. Brings to light
information that the BPD is a medical disorder that can
be treated. This was in fact the very first book that allowed me
to see the BPD for what it is - a medical disorder and how to
treat it. Dr. Heller discussed what BPD really is and displays
much compassion for people with this disorder. He discusses
neurological abnormalities in the BPD - EEG findings, visual
problems, psychiatric symptoms and medications. For the first
time, while reading his book, I realized there was hope. His
book is a a must read not only for the borderline but the for
the families and the clinicians as well.
Reader: "...I took on the perception that it meant I could never be treated effectively. I would never be emotionally well, and that my condition was one that no one looked forward to treating a patient for. Dr. Heller's book was quick to dispel that myth in my mind.

Imbroglio : Rising to the Challenges of Borderline Personality Disorder by Janice Cauwels |
| Patty Pheil M.S.W.:
Large, comprehensive book. Strongly recommended!
A must read if you want to understand the full picture of BPD. It does not offer one opinion but attempts to show you all current opinions and what they are based on). "This book is probably a good introduction to Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) for someone who is first reading about this disorder. Personally, I was looking for something a little more rigorous and authoritative. The author admits to having no special expertise in the subject, but has interviewed experts and others to arrive at her understanding of BPD. If you're looking for a top-notch, clear and understandable discussion of BPD."
